The Stissing Center, 2950 Church St, Pine Plains

The Stissing Center is proud to present Award-winning Off-Broadway theater, Urban Stages presentation of Ellen Abrams’ Eleanor and Alice – Conversations Between Two Remarkable Roosevelts, directed by Urban Stages Founder/Artistic Director Frances Hill. Starring Tony Award-Winner Trezana Beverley(Broadway: For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf) as Eleanor Roosevelt and Drama Desk Award-Winner Mary Bacon (Public’s Coal Country) as Alice Roosevelt Longworth, Eleanor, and Alice centers on two of the most influential women of the 20th century. Throughout the historical drama, Eleanor and Alice Roosevelt – friends, cousins, and rivals – meet at eight crucial moments throughout their lives. They feud, laugh, commiserate, and argue over their husbands, children, the nature of politics, and the state of the world. One a Democrat and one a Republican, throughout 60 years of meetings, they witness a changing world from their unique vantage points. Through their accomplishments, Eleanor and Alice ultimately help build a foundation that benefits women in politics today.

Celebrate the peak of spring in the Hudson Valley during our Memorial Day Weekend Community Day. Japanese primroses, yellow foxgloves, and peonies should be blooming.

Innisfree will open an hour before sunrise for those intrepid souls who are willing to get up early (or stay up very late) to experience the sunrise when golden light dramatically floods the garden. As morning mist clears, spring greens will be doubled in reflections on the lake. BEST. DATE. EVER. Equally great as a solo adventure or one with family and friends. Come early with your camera, easel, or birding binoculars. Bring a picnic breakfast or lunch. Grab a novel and stay all day!

Join expert horticulturist, naturalist, and Innisfree trustee Brad Roeller to explore and enjoy Innisfree’s spring blooming beauties. He will point out both native and garden species. Some are spring ephemerals, meaning the plants are only visible in the spring. Others are tiny gems that are easy to miss but once Brad points them out, you’ll be watching for them year after year. Still more add to landscape beauty and environmental health throughout the growing season.
